Norwich City Council
As part of the ‘Healthy Norwich Program’ Norwich City Council's food and safety team (FAST) run the Norwich Pledge for Health; the latest of a suite of five 'business merits' designed to recognise those food businesses that support the health and wellbeing agenda. FAST administer a website where all the food businesses in the city are listed together with their food hygiene rating and where those that have been awarded one or more business merits are also shown. As part of their food hygiene inspection program FAST regularly visits food businesses in the City and is well placed to encourage take-up of the scheme and, where appropriate, to audit compliance with the pledges made.
Launched in February 2013 the Norwich Pledge for Health scheme emulates the objectives of the Public Health Responsibility Deal at the local level and is designed to reward our small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) that pledge to improve people's health and wellbeing by recognising their commitment on our website.
Presently there are three routes by which an organisation may be granted a Norwich Pledge for Health. They can either: make a local pledge; be a PH Responsibility Deal national or local partner; or have been awarded Best Bar None status having demonstrated a commitment to selling alcohol responsibly.
In the coming months we will be expanding the Norwich Pledge for Health scheme to recognise those non-food premises within the City which have made a Pledge for Health, updating our back office systems to support the three entry routes to the scheme and also investigating ways we might publish the pledges that have been made on line. This work will form part of our commitment as a partner to the DoH Responsibility Deal and seeks to further encourage SMEs in Norwich to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees, their customers and the communities where they operate.
We will submit an annual report to the DoH updating them on the progress of the Norwich Pledge for Health
