A7(b). Targeted local action

The BBPA is a strong supporter of local action to tackle alcohol harms. Schemes such as Pubwatch, Best Bar None, Community Alcohol Partnerships, Purple Flag and Businesses Improvement Districts have already had success around the country in sharing best practice, reducing alcohol related crime and disorder, encouraging responsible retailing and creating a safer drinking environment.
BBPA continues to provide funding and support for Pubwatch and sits on the Best Bar None Board. We also sit on and provide input to the Social Responsibility Alliance which brings together the schemes and industry representatives to facilitate further engagement with local areas, in particular the Local Alcohol Action Areas.
We have offered ongoing support to those areas selected as LAAAs through the Home Office and have also written directly to offer assistance in getting member companies support for local projects and working groups undertaken in LAAAs or BBPA input and involvement where helpful and can also provide licensee guidance on responsible retailing and Challenge 21 and Customer Alcohol Unit Awareness materials.
We will continue to work with the Home Office, our members and other stakeholders at a local and national level to support the targeted local action proposed in the LAAAs.
