Our focus is to provide opportunities for employees to take an active approach in improving their overall health and wellbeing, via nutritional awareness, mental health awareness (reducing stigma and discrimination in the workplace), physical fitness opportunities, teambuilding and engagement activities.

Diversity and Inclusion
A number of Group employees have been recognised for their commitment towards Diversity and Inclusion at work covering the areas of advocacy, LBGT network, First Women Awards and outstanding business leaders.

Balfour Beatty Group are members of Opportunity Now and Race for Opportunity - the race and gender equality campaigns from Business in the Community. We sponsor a number of affinity networks to promote diversity including the Connecting Women community.

Volunteering
Balfour Beatty has an active volunteering programme, acting as lead sponsor of the London Youth Games for the last seven years. Around 160 employees have taken part in volunteering activities in 2014. Employees are granted up to two days per year paid leave for volunteering activities. Funds raised by employees for any of our Balfour Beatty charities are match funded.

Mental health - Our pledges during 2014/2015

• In 2014/15 we will pledge to support the ‘Time to Change’ movement. We will encourage open discussion by hosting awareness days and encouraging staff to volunteer as workplace champions

• We will establish an employee focus group to develop initiatives to promote workplace wellbeing

• In order to promote overall health and wellbeing we will offer fitness and wellbeing-related activities on site, use engagement tools such as online forums, encourage team –related challenges and conduct an annual health fair. Events and activities will continue to be rolled out over the course of the year

• We will continue to offer employee support through the Employee Assist Programme
