Berghaus are very passionate about ensuring their people’s health and wellbeing remains a priority. We have seen the benefits of promoting/encouraging a healthy workplace over the last 18 months since we have introduced a more structured approach. The company successfully completed Bronze level award as part of the North East Better Health Awards in 2013 where we implemented several initiates through the year. To build on this success and ensure we continue to listen to feedback and progress our initiatives, the Wellness at Work survey and wellness at work team will determine the range of initiatives that we will implement in 2014.
We know 72% would become more active if activities were offered at work. We give all staff the opportunity to participate in 4 Product Days annually, at various levels, plus the Sir Chris Bonington walk. We will continue to offer subsidised passes to 5 leisure centres across Sunderland including swim/gym/exercise classes. The Sunderland Active bus will visit our site quarterly, carrying out health & fitness checks and identifying sports and physical activity opportunities which could benefit the employee. We will also encourage staff to take part in our twice weekly lunch time walking clubs. We have teamed up with Sustrans, who focus on increasing the level of active travel (walking, cycling and public transport) activities have been planned for this year. We have partnered with Tyne & Wear Sport, a charitable company, who are committed to improving the quality, range and fairness of sporting opportunities. We will continue to encourage staff to take part in after work activities such as indoor climbing, zumba, race for life, 5aside football, running clubs. We pledge to gain silver status as part of North East better health Awards.
