Heinz Salt Targets 2017

Heinz has long been committed to progressive salt reduction as well as being an active partner in salt awareness campaigns. Our work which began almost 30 years ago continues as we assess opportunities for further salt reductions in line with changes in consumer taste with the ambition of meeting the new voluntary salt targets as part of the F9 pledge by the end of 2017.

Over recent years Heinz has continued to reduce the salt levels in its core varieties. Whilst still providing all the taste, the salt content of Heinz Tomato Ketchup has been reduced by almost 40%. The salt in Heinz Beanz has been cut by almost 50% in 10 years and in Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup it has been cut by almost 45% - in line with changes in consumer tastes.

We continue to explore the opportunity to further reduce salt levels in line with changes in consumer tastes. On-going recipe work for our Soups range continues. Products that significantly exceed the targets in both retail and foodservice have been highlighted to assess the feasibility for further recipe development work.

In addition, we continue to offer many of our most popular varieties with recipes that provide further reductions in salt and sugar vs. our standard products.

In 2010 we introduced varieties of our classic soup favourites including cream of tomato, and cream of chicken with 25% less salt than standard recipes, but still with the great taste consumers expect from a Heinz classic soup.
