BP has robust policy and process, supported by senior leaders, which promote wellbeing in the workplace, including mental resilience. HR policy includes process for making reasonable adjustments at every stage of employment, including recruitment and return to work. Managers, HR and employees work together to review any adjustment. Occupational health advice and support is available for all stages of employment, including recruitment.
BP has multiple wellbeing initiatives to encourage healthy lifestyle behaviours, including the promotion of mental wellbeing. Training and development to help identify early signs of pressure or stress for managers and employees is ongoing.
During 2014 we are piloting an e-learning programme designed to help individuals reduce personal stress and improve health, wellbeing and personal effectiveness at home and at work. The comprehensive evidence-based learning programme, developed by a Health Psychologist and BP’s Occupational Health team, provides information and support in order to develop healthier and more effective ways of thinking and dealing with problems. This will be reviewed for effectiveness before wider distribution.
Workshops for managers that provide information and skills to promote their own and their team’s resilience are reviewed both objectively and subjectively to ensure effective training. There is access to comprehensive information to manage mental wellbeing on the company internal web.
Examples of internal and external best practice are reviewed in order to enhance the company approach to mental wellbeing. Incidence on mental ill health is monitored by the Employee assistance programme and Occupational Health services
