H3. Health & Wellbeing Report

Committed since:

1 January, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 31 March, 2014

We recently launched a health & wellbeing programme. The objectives are to:

- Promote positive wellbeing with a programme of diverse initiatives
- Improve access to existing resources through promotion and better signposting
- Provide more support for those suffering from stress

Guidance

We have a number of support mechanisms in place, i.e. the employee assistance programme, which offers face to face counselling and a website with advice on a range of topics. There are also several health and wellbeing services e.g flu vaccination programme, health screening and a bike to work scheme. Awareness is mixed across the firm so we will be promoting these more.

Information and guidance is also provided through our occupational health providers. They provide a Health & Wellbeing Advisory Service, which is available 24 hours a day, for employees to discuss any personal concerns about medical conditions, treatment and general health and lifestyle issues. There is an interactive health and wellbeing portal which gives staff the resources and inspiration to make simple changes to develop a healthier, more balanced and productive lifestyle.

The firm's intranet has a web page dedicated to health and wellbeing which contains information, support and guidance and is accessible to all staff and managers.

Training

We run training specifically designed to support staff to manage their wellbeing proactively, and recently ran a pilot training session on time management and email best practice designed for lawyers.

In May we are running lunchtime seminars in our three largest offices, on nutrition and sleep to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, which will be open to all staff. The seminars will be videoed for those unable to attend. Articles and best practice will be published on a regular basis and other relevant events organised.

Internal face to face support

We are currently recruiting a team of wellbeing friends in each of our offices to act as a point of contact for anyone needing help in managing their wellbeing. We see this as a mental health first aider role with the aim to help struggling individuals access the right help and support. This team will receive training to equip them for the role.

Data

Sickness absence data is captured and recorded in terms of occasions and days. We have guidance on recording sickness absence.
