Delivery plan:

Submitted: 26 March, 2014

MoJ recognises that as many as 1 in 6 of our employees may at some point suffer from mental ill-health. In April 2013, MoJ signed up to the ‘Time to Change’ pledge and ran a campaign raising awareness of mental health issues, including a new intranet page accessible to all staff, workshops looking at Emotional resilience to help understand how to adapt to stressful situations or crises and spring back emotionally; Mindfulness techniques to improve concentration and build a positive outlook; and on mental health and domestic violence presented by the Civil Service Charity.

We have set up dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing intranet pages that include a range of information and signposting to useful internal and external links and contacts.

MoJ are committed to supporting staff when affected by mental health difficulties and have a range of policies to assist with this, including for example; Business Disability Forum mental health guidance for line mangers, reasonable adjustments support (including for disability leave), a disability policy, stress assessment guidance, work place support and flexible and alternative working. We also have Carers Support pages which would include someone who cares for an individual with a mental illness.

We also encourage all staff to complete the Disability awareness e-learning that includes mental health awareness.

Our Reasonable Adjustment Support Service is for all staff and managers considering reasonable adjustments, this includes those for staff suffering from mental ill health.

Staff may also access confidential advice and support through the MoJ Wellbeing Service.

2014-15
- MoJ will continue to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental wellbeing and the policies available to support staff facing mental ill health, through information and events.
- MoJ will review guidance to ensure it continues to meet requirements.
- MoJ will have in place new senior Disability Champions who will include mental health.
