Express Medicals recognises that the health of employees is influenced by many factors within the spheres of both work and social life. While the role of occupational health cannot encompass every factor, we can create a culture whereby workers’ health and wellbeing is supported and influenced.
By ensuring that workers’ health is a highlighted issue, employees are shown that they are viewed as a valuable asset. Communicating this sense of value is the first stage in encouraging workers to invest in their own wellbeing. We cultivate a working environment within our own company where everyone, from the directors down, is aware of the importance of respect for ourselves and our environment.
Raising the profile of health is fundamental to the success of this project. The more knowledge that employees have, the more they are empowered to take responsibility for their own health. We expect to benefit in the longer term from less sickness absence and more productive working days.
A wellbeing calendar has been implemented whereby monthly health awareness campaigns will be carried out. These campaigns are an important component of the health promotion activities within the company and are set out to educate staff on a variety of topics, including:
1. Love your liver month
2. World Cancer Day
3. Know your numbers – health screen checks for staff
4. National allergy week
5. Walk to work week
6. Everyman male cancer awareness month
7. Sun awareness
8. Get active
9. World heart day
10. World mental health day and wear it pink as a charity fund-raiser
11. Movember and National stress awareness month
12. Christmas jumper Friday
Campaigns will be delivered through monthly newsletters called WorkHealth Matters, health promotion days, leaflets, posters and podcasts. A health and wellbeing policy will be implemented to further sustain this initiative. Annual activity on the health promotion activities will be reported on.
