Domestic Violence

Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) includes crimes that affect women disproportionately such as domestic violence, rape, sexual offences, forced marriage, honour-based violence and other crimes perpetrated primarily, but not exclusively, by men against women. The CPS is committed to improving the prosecutorial response to all forms of VAWG. The organisation is also committed to supporting staff affected by VAWG and recognises the continuing need to raise awareness of the issues and support its workforce. In March 2010, the CPS issued guidance for its staff on all VAWG issues, including domestic violence, which set outs out the organisation’s response as an employer for:

• Members of staff who experience VAWG;
• Managers who are assisting and supporting employees experiencing VAWG, or assisting employees who are alleged perpetrators;
• Colleagues of employees who experience or perpetrate VAWG; and
• Members of staff who are alleged perpetrators of VAWG.

The CPS will review and, if needed, update its guidance for employees on VAWG during 2014-15.
