The Trust's policies on 'Managing Long Term Sickness and ongoing Health Problems' and 'Supporting Critical Illness' both set out the support offered to staff and the guidance offered to managers in order to ensure that staff experiencing long term/chronic conditions are supported appropriately. This includes provision of reasonable flexibilities and workplace adjustments. Line managers also have recourse to further support and advice from Human Resources and Occupational Health departments on a case by case basis.

By the end of 2013, the Trust will have reviewed and updated the above policies in line with the Chronic Conditions Guides developed by the Responsibility Deal's Health at Work network. The updated policies will then be communicated across the Trust to staff and line managers. This will ensure that the essential principles of managing chronic conditions, as outlined in the guides, are incorporated into existing people management training for new line managers.
