P2. Physical Activity Guidelines
31 July, 2013
Submitted: 31 July, 2013
The Treasury has committed to the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendation that activity should total at least 2.5 hours of moderate intensity activity in bouts of 10 minutes or more per week, through the following activities:
• We publicised and took part in the Civil Service physical activity challenge for 2012.
• We promoted the Charity for Civil Servants sponsored walking challenge in 2012 and again in 2013. The month of May was the National Walking Month, so we also encouraged staff to take part in the Walk to Work Week.
• We promote the Treasury’s Sports & Social Club and associated sports. The onsite gymnasium runs various exercise classes, gym circuits, martial arts etc. There is also a badminton club.
• A Sports Day was held in July where Treasury employees took part in sports such as football, tennis, racing, volleyball, netball, rounders to name a few.
We will further advertise any relevant activity challenges that come up over the course of the year.
We will aim to re-emphasise and raise awareness that being active helps alleviate stress, bring down blood pressure and generally has a positive effect on overall health and wellbeing.
We will publicise 3rd party websites e.g. Change4Life. We aim to promote the CMO guidelines to staff through our Wellbeing communications.
