H3. Health & Wellbeing Report

Committed since:

31 July, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 31 July, 2013

The Treasury’s Annual Reports have contained a section on Health, Safety and Wellbeing. Part of the information provided in the reports is the annual working days lost to sickness absence. The latest data covering financial year 2012-13 has been included in the Annual Report. We also publish (internally) quarterly scorecards which detail annual sickness absence and staff turnover.
We have guidance on managing sickness absence on our intranet available for all employees to read. This includes requiring sickness absence to be recorded on a database. Numbers of days lost and reasons are closely monitored. Where there are patterns, this could result in proactive intervention. Managers are encouraged to refer cases to our OH provider at an early stage. As this can either help prevent sickness absence or ensure an early return to work should sickness absence be underway. Business Partners and HR Advisers also help managers deal with the more difficult cases.
The Civil Service has sickness absence targets to meet for the number of annual days lost. The Treasury is well below the Civil Service average.
We have published guidance on our Health, Safety & Wellbeing intranet website advising how to prevent some types of illness e.g Measles, Norovirus. We also have access to much literature published by our OH provider which is distributed as required.
We have developed a Diversity Action Plan where mental health & wellbeing is strongly featured. We are in the process of updating our ‘managing sickness absence’, ‘stress’ and ‘workplace adjustments guidance’ to make these more robust.
Next Steps:
The intranet will include additional information to support staff and managers around health and wellbeing. A timetable detailing Wellbeing awareness days and actions to be taken will be drawn up and intranet articles published to coincide with those dates to raise staff awareness.
We aim to meet actions detailed on our Diversity Action Plan by deadlines set.
