P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace

East Cheshire NHS Trust will encourage all employees to be physically active whilst implementing the relevant recommendations of the NICE public health guidance for the workplace.
We will introduce further measures to reduce musculoskeletal problems by undertaking a review of the current rapid access pathways and producing a streamlined process for rapid access to physiotherapy services. In 2013 a bigger emphasis will be placed on ensuring that all staff use proper manual handling procedures and equipment, with increased support in manual handling training and techniques. A Health needs assessment will be undertaken at the end of 2013.
We will encourage staff to use local leisure facilities and engage in Trust organised/subsidised schemes/ events by promoting our calendar of activities and events (internal and external, paid and subsidised) through regular trust communication channels. Our wellbeing intranet page will be further developed and more interactive using webcam videos of trust activities taken by staff, you tube clips and senior executives health and wellbeing pen portraits. A mini Olympics 'fun day' will be organised annually competing with other local NHS Trusts encouraging staff participation with friends and families.
We will provide staff with information about walking and cycling routes, encourage staff to take short walks during work breaks and to walk to work where possible as outlined in our current strategy, we will further encourage staff involvement through promotions, embracing national walk to work week and national parks week as part of our annual promotions. We will encourage staff to make pledges and informally monitor their progress, encouraging departmental competition as well as organisational competitions and initiatives.
