The Fit for Work Team's core business is to provide a return to work service for those people on, or at risk of long term sickness absence throughout Leicestershire. By October 2011, 62% of referred patients had mental health problems and 27% musculoskeletal problems. This profile of health problems combined with the relative social deprivation of our clients (62% from 4th-5th quintile) leads to the fact that many of our clients do not lead. 1. Active Lifestyles for clients - We have already undertaken significant steps to improve the activity levels of our clients while they are with the service, even if such help does not directly improve the success of our return to work interventions. The Fit for Work Service is one of the top 5 referrers to the Leicester and Leicestershire Active Lifestyle Exercise Referral Scheme. The Clinical Director is a GP and the occupational health nurse advisor on the team successfully negotiated direct referral of our clients to this exercise scheme, the only non NHS provider in Leicestershire to be able to do so. This scheme has been designed to aid individuals who have been identified by their GP or other health professional to take up the benefits of participation in enjoyable exercise. People referred to the scheme will receive a 12 week activity programme designed for their needs delivered by highly qualified instructors.Some of the activities people can be referred to are: -Dedicated health fitness sessions at the local leisure centre -Gentle exercise sessions in the community -Chair based exercise sessions -Local walking for health groups There is a small charge for people with physical health problems. People with mental health problems can access the service free of charge. 2. Active Lifestyles for employees - Through our membership of the Chamber of Commerce, we can offer reduced gym membership at a local Health Club. As a microbusiness of less than 10 employees, we do not currently participate in any team sport or exercise activities. We will explore joining the Leicestershire Rutland Sport Active Together Workplace Challenge in 2012. The result of this and joint physical activity of employees will be reported in the Fit for Work Team's annual Health and Wellbeing Report with a view to this being a stimulus to more joint staff activity in future.
