We believe that the health and wellbeing of our employees is as important as their safety at work. As part of our health and safety improvement strategy we are seeking to ensure that that the health risks from work are effectively managed and that we have good occupational health support services in place.We have a range of services in place to support employees who are affected by chronic conditions and to support them to remain in work. These include:Access to professional occupational health medical advice for individuals and their managers. This may be via the telephone or face to face. This may result in a referral for specialist support for either physical or mental health conditions. We will use this professional guidance to ensure that any chronic conditions are reviewed and where necessary, employees roles are adjusted, or individuals are redeployed into roles so that their long term health and wellbeing is protected.24/7 access for all employees and their family to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) helpline and website with guidance on a range of life issues. Part of this service also includes free face to face counseling sessions.Annual health surveillance is carried out for all employees who are in roles where there are defined occupational health risks. Follow up referrals are made for advice/ support where any conditions are identified that may impact on or be adversely affected by work.All employees have free use of a website Health Matters giving guidance and support on different health topics.During 2013 we will:Ensure that information on our occupational health services is included within relevant manager training coursesUse our employee road shows as an opportunity to raise employee awareness of occupational health and wellbeingIssue a monthly health matters bulletin on a different topic to all employeesContinue to work alongside Trade Union Health and Safety Representatives to ensure we are effectively protecting employees and supporting them to continue to work, wherever possible.
