HMRC have an internal website and pages dedicated to Health and Wellbeing. A Wellbeing Strategy and Action Plan have been developed and are regularly updated. Comprehensive information and access to support for staff and managers around health issues is readily available from a dedicated team of Specialist Trained Advisors.Occupational Health Safety has featured in the published HMRC Annual reports for a number of years and a section on Health and Wellbeing of HMRC employees will be included in the annual report in 2013.Sickness absence data is captured and recorded in terms of average working days lost per staff year. HMRC have robust policy and guidance on managing sickness absence which includes how to record the absence using the departmental electronic system. All business areas within HMRC have Attendance Champions who offer support to managers dealing with absence issues and work with senior managers to analyse the data, identifying the highest cause of absence in their business stream by employee grade and geographical location to inform proactive interventions.HMRC, along with other government departments, have a target to reduce average working days lost to sickness absence. To further understand sickness absence in HMRC, ensure policy is fit for purpose, and roll out new initiatives to meet this objective, an Attendance and Wellbeing Steering Group was established. The group meet regularly reporting activity and progress to HMRC Executive Committee. Next steps: The section of HMRC 2012/13 annual report referring to Health and Wellbeing will be made available on the PHRD website.The annual report will be communicated to employees using existing methods already in place.Further publicity, specific to Health and Wellbeing reporting will be highlighted through news articles and stakeholder discussions with the lines of business.
