Pledge:

H1. Chronic Conditions Guide and Carers

Committed since:

1 January, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 20 February, 2012

BT has already embedded the principles of the Chronic Conditions Guide within its HR procedures. Our existing attendance management processes support our managers to make reasonable work and/or workplace adjustments that support our people to remain in productive work and to help people return to work as quickly as possible after a period of sickness absence. BT managers and HR have access to an internal support service which provides access to external expertise from disability experts Remploy. Additionally, we provide a wide range of information on our health and Wellbeing intranet site to enable our people to understand and manage health conditions to allow maintenance at work despite any underlying health problem. The material is both internally developed and delivered by information sheets, knowledge calls, health programmes like ‘Work Fit - ‘Know your numbers’ (see P4) as well as linking out to external derived content such as that provided by the Department of Health and the Royal Colleges. BT has developed a suite of Passports which include a health and Wellbeing passport that allows individuals and their manager to capture relevant information that will facilitate the management of a health condition whilst at work. This is supplemented by specialist advice services including the Occupational Health Service, the Employee Assistance Programme (for both individuals and managers/HR), the Mental Health Service (focussing on CBT), the musculoskeletal disorders service and the functional capacity evaluation service delivered by our external supplier. BT will continue to promote these principles and practices through any relevant channels.
