Marks and Spencer (MS) has always worked hard to look after its people and has a reputation as an employer of choice. With a wide and diverse employee base, we wanted to take a truly bold and proactive approach to engaging our employees on health in a way which provided a holistic, tailored product which caters for individual needs. With 80,000 employees in over 600 stores, with hugely differing health needs, this represented an enormous challenge. We fundamentally believe that happier/healthier employees are more engaged and effective employees who, if voluntarily recruited into a wellbeing concept which resonates for them, will not only more likely to engage with the business but to offer more of their own discretionary effort. We have launched our http://www.planahealth.com wellbeing website a strategy builds on our plan a ethical trading platform enables us to link store community groups, set up employee discussion forums, promote our wide range of employee health offers such as our breast screening and our eap services. It has video and podcast information from experts, access to personal health coaches and the MS occupational health and employee support services. Our employees are able to interact with one another, post information on clubs and groups in their area, gain access to information about corporate projects which link to their personal health pledges. Response since our may 2010 launch has been incredible, 11,500 employees have made personal pledges to improve a specific health or wellbeing issue. In the past 12 month over 3000 employees signed up to join our rescue your resolution corporate weightloss and exercise challenges. During the 12 weeks of our weightloss challenge our business collectively lost 3.25 tonnes in weight and received hundreds of testimonials from employees stating not only that they are enjoying the programme but also that they enjoy its social/community style.
