The Department of Health has contracted with our catering supplier, Quadrant, to meet the requirements of this pledge and they have supplied the following information:The menu across the Department of Health contract has been designed to provide a nutritionally balanced meal offer. Our menu is analysed against the DRV's (dietary reference values) for the average female and male adult population. We provide fresh vegetables with our meals, a selection of low calorie dishes and grilled fish as an alternative to fried. our sandwich meal deal includes a piece of fruit and water.None of our recipes contain artificial trans-fats. We have already introduced 1% milk and a lower fat sandwich range, only use extra light mayonnaise and cook with polyunsaturated fats. We do not add salt when cooking carbohydrates or vegetables. work is continuing to reformulate recipes to reduce fat and energy and we are working with our suppliers to ensure that all of our products meet the 2012 salt targets. We currently provide responsible sized portions in line with the contractual agreement between the Department of Health and Quadrant. We actively promote fruit and vegetables by ensuring the availability of fresh fruit, pricing fruit lower than a hot dessert, loyalty card promotion (buy 4 get the 5th free) and providing two vegetables to accompany main meals each day.We provide GDA labelling on our standard products and display this information at the food purchase point by way of counter labels or on the packaging.Water is visible and freely available.
