H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 5 January, 2012
We will implement basic measures for encouraging healthier staff restaurants. We will ensure the availability of healthy eating options on site by introducing healthy eating initiatives such as Zest for Life. This is already implemented at our corprorate accounts sites and will be implemented as per the clients' requests at other sites throughout 2012.We will work with suppliers and manufacturers to reformulate products to provide dishes that are lower in fat, salt and artificial trans fats by encouraging our suppliers/manufacturers to become a Responsibility Deal partner. We will try to procure the majority of our products from suppliers/manufacturers that have signed up to the removal of artificial trans fats pledge. We will provide responsibly-sized portions of food by introducing a costing model, Saffron, into the business in early 2012.We will be trialling this at key sites first, then rolling out to all sites by the end of 2012. This software will enable sites to carry out their recipe costings and manage their portion control at site level. We will provide and promote the consumption of fruit and vegetables by rewarding healthy eating and supporting fruity Fridays and other wellness initiatives. We have loyalty cards available and will support the healthy initiative that the client prefers. We will provide GDAs on all our grab go products with the aspiration of rolling this out to all main meal items as well. This is done via our web-based labelling system and using Saffron and the McCance and Widdowson's database.
