Mars believes that good health is good business and that our employees are our greatest assets. Supporting this belief, we strive to be a leader in workplace welfare, as highlighted by the recent food and drink federation gold award for our winning with wellness campaign. We therefore take the health and wellbeing of our employees extremely seriously, and recognise that a healthy, committed workforce is vital to business success. As a key element of health and wellbeing, we offer a range of physical activity initiatives across our UK sites. We have introduced gyms at a number of our sites. These gyms are available for use seven days a week, and include access to a personal trainer. Other sites offer discounted memberships to local gyms and corporate gym memberships. We also offer safe access to outdoor space at a number of sites, where the walks provide the perfect opportunity to exercise at any time of the day.We have introduced the provision of free physical activities at our sites. These include organised events such as netball and rounders tournaments, five-a-side football, and regular exercise classes including circuit training, boxercise and pilates. The physical activity programme we offer has been designed to reflect the diverse workforce we have so that we engage the maximum number of employees. Our exercise classes have proved so popular that we have increased the number of sessions available to meet demand. We have improved our onsite cycling facilities, held free Dr Bike MOT bike check sessions and promoted local cycle routes to encourage cycling among our employees. We have also arranged a discount on bicycles and accessories for all our employees with a well known national cycling company. We have also re-introduced the intermars triathlon which saw over 100 competitors, with representatives from every Mars UK site, take part.As part of winning with wellness in-house workplace health scheme we have held wellness focus weeks at all of our sites, featuring a combination of information on diet and nutrition, physical activity, stress management and smoking cessation. Physical activity elements of our wellness focus weeks have included Bike4Life and Walk4Life. As highlighted above, our winning with wellness programme was recently awarded the gold award in the health and wellbeing category at the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) community partnerships awards for its Winning with Wellness programme. All of these activities are actively promoted to all employees, along with the provision of facilities such as showers, changing rooms and bicycle racks to make exercising easier and more accessible.
