Kettle Foods Ltd has been lowering the salt levels in its products since 2005, a policy that will be continued under the Responsibility Deal. This will involve step by step reductions to ensure consumer acceptance.The initial stage of reformulation involves discussions with our seasoning suppliers and the development of a programme to lower salt levels. The resulting seasonings are applied to products, which are taste tested within the business. If acceptable, these are then tasted by consumer panels.Depending on the results of the above trials, the seasonings and/or application rates are altered to ensure that the salt reduction targets are met along with consumer acceptance.A significant number of products already meet the responsibility deal's targets and the approach of gradual salt reductions described above will continue to ensure that all kettle® brand products meet the targets by the end of 2012.
