Hope North East (HNE) CIC is committed to smoking cessation within the work-place and improved respiratory health of all staff, volunteers and service users. As part of our better health at work campaign during 2011 we have undertaken a campaign aimed at 'Smoking Cessation'. Organised by a HNE health advocate. A number of resources were obtained from the health improvement specialist - workplace lead, including: tar jar, occluded artery and poisons board. Other leaflets and useful information were also sourced to hand out to participants. The health advocate contacted the stop smoking services and got lists of surgery times/dates for participants. A number of stop smoking support groups were delivered at HNE, on a weekly basis. This provided the individuals with an opportunity to look at the resources, discuss their fear, goals and learn how to access community resources. So far 4 individuals have stopped smoking as a result of this initiative. This peer-led approach to support has worked well and we would like to continue and replicate this initiative througout 2012.
