The workplace is a valuable health-promoting environment and Heinz is committed to improving the health of its 3,000 employees.Our Well@Work programme has been established at out Kitt Green site near Wigan since 2005. As Europe's largest food factory the programme aims to highlight behavioural changes to effect positive differences in health and lasting improvements to lifestyles. Improving diet through education awareness programmes is an important part of the activity including monthly table-talkers on nutrition in the canteen, repeated health checks for employees including measurements of blood pressure, cholesterol, stamina, BMI and body composition with the aim of providing advice on heart disease prevention and to motivate people to make healthier lifestyle choices. In addition we introduced a sandwich ordering service and a daily healthy option dish with improved choices. We also lowered the price of fruit and introduced seasonal fruit. Anyone who buys the main meal of the day gets their vegetable free and the price of fruit is lower. We have also introduced healthier buffet menus for meetings. Water is available freely through water coolers throughout the canteen.Following a thorough review of our existing catering arrangements at our head office site in Hayes Park Middlesex we are moving to a new service provider as of the start of 2012. This service provider is also a signatory to the Responsibility Deal and specifically on F1 Out of Home Calorie Labelling, F2 Salt Reduction, F3 Artificial Trans Fats Removal and H4 Healthier Staff Restaurants.Café 57 menus are created on-site using fresh local ingredients and change with the seasons. Full GDA analysis and information is available on all packaged grab go items. As part of good catering practice levels of fat, sugar and salt are minimised and lean meat is sourced as standard. As part of a commitment to variety a wide range of breads and fillings on deli, healthier hot option and snacks are being provided together with nutritionally balanced salad boxes. Water is freely available from water coolers.Continuous feedback actively sought with new plans communicated and trialled before implementation.In addition, in 2009 Heinz launched a Full of Beans programme for all employees with information to help look after physical fitness as well as offering health eating guidance. This has included workshops and lunch 'n' learn sessions from our in-house nutrition team on healthy eating and how to read food labels as well as providing health recipes and health facts.
