Health wellbeing is at the heart of our business and is a core priority for our executive board at Compass Group UK Ireland.We are committed to managing employees with chronic conditions in a sensitive and professional manner. In our business we have robust policies in place for both short and long term sickness and a mechanism through which managers receive expert medical information from a GP, specialist or ohs provider.Referral to OHS is through our dedicated HR support centre that monitors the quality of information provided to managers. Once received, we discuss with the employee any reasonable adjustments or other roles within the company for consideration. This enables continued employment, or a return to work, in line with the disability discrimination/equality act if appropriate.Key elements in dealing with chronic conditions within compass are consultation, medical investigation and consideration of reasonable adjustments/alternative employment. Reasonable adjustments might include changes to work layout or alternative hours.Employees in need of additional support due to a chronic condition have the benefit of being able to access a confidential telephone counselling and legal information service that operates 24 hours a day. The services' experienced, professional counsellors will ensure that the employee has the time to talk through any concerns and feelings they may have, helping to provide easily understood, practical information. Our active membership of the health at work network has ensured that our experiences have helped to shape the chronic condition guide. We are committed to embedding this guide within our HR policies and we have set ourselves a goal to continuously review our HR policies throughout 2012 to reflect this commitment.
