Community Sports Trust CIC help to get more people physically active

This case study outlines what action Community Sports Trust CIC have taken to deliver on their commitment to pledge P1. Physical Activity: Community.

Our staff work remotely so we’ve had to be creative about promoting physical activity within the workplace. We include a physical activity element to all of our staff meetings, whether a walk, geo cache or a bike ride and we encouraged all staff to sign up to, and take part in the recent Workplace Challenge.

Everything we do is designed to get more people physical active. Our programmes include Jog Derbyshire, Community Games, Village Games and Active for Life. Via our Village Games programme we engage whole communities in physical activity. We encourage community engagement via a community consultation, asking local people what would help them become more active. We then facilitate activities for all members of the community, from back to netball to walking football to family boot camps.

Through Jog Derbyshire we support local volunteers to run 70 local jogging groups. Our Jog into January programme was particularly successful, 160 people took part in an 8 week programme designed to take them from walking to jogging.

6400 people participated this year. Primarily we work in areas of deprivation and encourage the whole community to be more active. For example, we have worked in sheltered housing to deliver Kurling and Boccia, the oldest participant was 99! We have been particularly successful at getting women more active.
