A4. Tackling Under-Age Alcohol Sales

Please describe your work to reduce and prevent under-age sales of alcohol, over the last year (2000 characters limit):
To ensure that we sell alcohol responsibly, all our checkout colleagues receive regular ‘Challenge 25’ training and are prompted by the till to ask for ID from any customer who looks under 25. We also share this training with independent retailers within the Community Alcohol Partnership Scheme.
We have been instrumental in the formulation of the Retail of Alcohol Standards Group (RASG) guidance. Beyond the work already done on the responsible retailing of alcohol, connected to underage drinking, this guidance sets out what further steps retailers are taking. It reflects changing priorities of the Group, to begin focusing on the broader aspects of alcohol retail. It is the first of its kind and establishes a high level of standards for retailers to operate to. It covers all aspects of alcohol retailing, including the legal and self-regulatory frameworks in which retailers operate, as well as voluntary measures retailers have agreed to undertake.
