1 January, 2013
Submitted: 8 June, 2015
Please describe how you have promoted awareness of alcohol units, calorie content, NHS drinking guidelines and the associated health harms in the off-trade, over the last year (2000 characters limit):
Central England Co-operative is committed to providing its customers, members and staff with the information they need to make informed choices about their consumption of alcohol. We do this using a variety of channels and mechanisms including information in our stores, customer magazines, membership magazines, intranet and internet. The Co-operative Group provides simple and consistent information on the labels of all own our own-brand beer, wine, cider and spirits products about the calorie content of drinks in addition to the information on units and NHS drinking guidelines. We have included calorie information since 2002 and were the first retailer to provide this.
We promoted the new Drinkaware app to our colleagues through the intranet, in our in-house magazine and via twitter to both colleagues and customers.
At Christmas and the new year we produced alcohol awareness posters and messages in our business support centre and in our weekly internal electronic newsletters.
Central England Co-operative will continue to review whether there is more that we can do to raise awareness of units and responsible drinking guiedlines in accordance with The Co-operative Group.
