P2. Physical Activity Guidelines

Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
We run fitness classes in our Home Offices with the option of using internal reward cards as payment for these classes, and we offer subsidised gym membership at a number of gyms across the country including Fitness First, Virgin Active, David Lloyd and the Gym Scheme. These are promoted all year round on our Everyone Benefits website as well as by poster campaigns throughout the year. We promote our Cycle to Work scheme with on-site promotion events, including at stores, and we have made improvements to the showering and changing facilities in Home Offices to make it easier for people to cycle, walk or run to work or exercise during the working day.
We have increased the number of places available at fitness classes in our Home Offices. New classes include yoga, pilates and baby natal classes for expecting mums, and our boot camp programme remains highly popular. We have added additional sessions at different times in order to increase the number of colleagues able to participate.
Following feedback from colleagues that they would like to organise more local sporting events rather than centralised national events, we are replacing our annual Colleague Games with information and support available on our intranet about how to organise and run local tournaments in a variety of sports including football and netball.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
We continue to promote our continued partnership with Sports Leaders UK in store and online. To promote physical activity we have worked together to develop a handy fold-out poster full of simple, free activity ideas that parents can use to keep the kids active and entertained in their own back gardens during the holidays. We are giving over 50,000 of these posters out for free via our community life champions in stores, as well as making the leaflet free to download via our website www.asda.com/active
We also run in-store healthy activity events through our Community Life Champions, where we distribute educational resources to customers and invite in local sports providers to showcase their services to local customers.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Our 400 Asda Active Sports Days reached more than 60,000 primary school children through 1,000 primary schools. We held an in-store launch to promote Sports Leadership qualifications and the importance and benefits of physical literacy and activity (including giving away free activity ideas posters to customers).
We worked with the British Nutrition Foundation to develop a wide range of healthy living activities and educational materials that we have made available to customers for free at our new website http://recipes.asda.com/Community-Life
Our charitable Foundation, the Asda Foundation, has an ongoing strategic and delivery programme with the Active Communities Network. We currently run two programmes with bespoke, localised elements, one in Belfast and one in London, which aim to tackle poverty and social deprivation at the heart of neighbourhoods with grassroots projects, primarily through the medium of sport. The programmes are aimed at improving the employability of young people and supports our outreach into areas with high social deprivation, targeting some of the most at risk young people and delivering clear progression pathways into citizenship and employment. As well as the financial contributions to both programmes, the partnership sees Asda Community Life Champions and colleagues from local stores mentor young people, shadow them during sport and youth work programmes and offer them work placement opportunities. Participants also have access to free training including the Open College Network (OCN) Skills for Employment and Enterprise accreditation.
The revised Chief Medicial Officers (CMO) guidelines provide physical activity recommendations for four distinct age groups. From the following list, please indicate the age groups you have focused on in disseminating the guidelines (if unknown, please explain why):
