1 January, 2013
Submitted: 18 May, 2015
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Physical activity is an important part of our employee wellbeing programme.
We use our employee website, OurLounge, to communicate ways of being healthy at work and in home-lives. Some of the initiatives we have undertaken in recent years include:
- Partnering with gyms and fitness centres across the UK to provide significant savings on membership fees for employees via the employee discount portal
- Encouraging people to eat and drink well at work
- Communicating the government's physical activity guidelines
Total Ourlounge page hits on Wellbeing pages for 2014 was 190,000 views
- We know that our people already do a lot of physical activity as part of their jobs, the majority of whom are restaurant based and are on their feet most of the time
- We have a gym on site at our head office, and subsidise its membership to encourage office employees to stay fit and active
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
Many of our franchisees support local sports teams through financial aid, donations, and business advice; helping to sustain local clubs. Some may also advertise sport activities in their restaurant.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
In addition to our sponsorship of grassroots football through our Better Play programme, our employees are encouraged to take part in the company-run McDonald's Cup. This year, the competition had over 700 teams take part, with the finalists getting the chance to play at Hampden Park, encouraging a healthy level of training and competition within our restaurant and office staff.
Please estimate the number of people that (a) participated in your community programmes:

We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
Due to the franchised nature of our business, we are unable to capture these metrics.
