Please describe the programme you have in place:
Interserve Construction remains committed to ensuring that the health of both our employees and others is not adversely affected by our activities and continue to treat health as the equal to safety.
Campaigns – In 2014 we issued Briefing Notes across the business in relation to dust and hand arm vibration.
We developed a respiratory risks e learning course with the focus being construction dust including best practice in relation to control including working methods and equipment that was completed by a site based target group of 420 employees.
We are seeing real difference in working methods now with vacuums being used in place of brushes as just one example.
We also developed an alcohol and drugs e learning course that was completed by 1,300 employees.
Training – In 2014 we provided training to over 800 subcontract employees.
We also developed and delivered health and safety update training to our employees across the business that included controlling respiratory risks on construction sites to add to and build to the respiratory risks e learning course.
Advice – Our in-house occupational health team continued to facilitate “drop in clinics” on a range of occupational and lifestyle health topics on selected construction sites.
Systems and Processes – We reviewed and revised our management systems and processes in 2014 to ensure health risks are pro-actively managed.
Health Surveillance – The company undertook occupational health checks on 364 employees in 2014. Results indicate continued good control of occupational health risks; however two of those seen have been assessed as needing restrictions or changes to their working practices. Those seen also received advice regarding health promotion on a range of work related health issues (musculoskeletal/respiratory/skin/hand-arm vibration/noise/vision).
We continue to set a number of targets, the metrics of which are monitored regularly by the company’s management including the Company Board.
