H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 30 April, 2015
Please decribe how you and your caterers have encouraged healthier restaurants/vending outlet/buffets (as applicable) for your staff over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
All employees continue to benefit from the availability of free fresh water being offered across all of our sites.
We also continue to offer fresh fruit to employees across the business on a monthly basis.
Our catering providers maintain their commitment to supporting healthier eating within our staff canteens. Whilst meeting the new labelling requirements under the Food Information for Consumers Regulation, clear labelling for allergens and nutritional information including calories and fat are included on products at the point of purchase.
This labelling has also been extended to several products offered as part of the takeaway menu, with the intention to expand this across the whole range in the coming months.
Furthering on the offering of side salads as a menu accompaniment, our Scarborough canteen will see the installation of self-service salad bar in the coming months to further promote healthy eating.
Recipes and cooking practices continue to use low sodium salt, low fat vegetable oils and margarine. We have recently also introduced low fat dressings to all salads offered across our sites. Breakfast menu items, such as sausages are now oven-baked as opposed to being fried.
Our staff shop in Scarborough continues to offer a range of alternative options for lunchtime meals, including our Ready Baked Jackets and a series of wraps and sandwiches.
