A4. Tackling Under-Age Alcohol Sales

Please describe your work to reduce and prevent under-age sales of alcohol, over the last year (2000 characters limit):
Tackling underage sales remains a key issue for BBPA and members, and ensuring that levels of underage purchase are brought to as near zero as possible.
We continue to actively promote the Challenge 21 campaign which remains the most widely used campaign in the on-trade. However, as Challenge 25 is a legal requirement in Scotland we also make Challenge 25 available to our members, who are part of the Scottish Beer and Pub Association, our sister Association and to other stakeholders.
As part of the support which we offered the Government's Local Alcohol Action Areas, we wrote to all 20 selected areas to offer Challenge 21 posters for them to distribute to pubs in their areas. We continue to make the posters available to download for free or to send out hard copies to our members or any individual premises that request copies.
We have ongoing involvement in supporting the Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) to ensure consistency of proof of age cards around the country and have a seat on the PASS board. We have been fully involved in promoting the new standardised PASS card which was launched last year to improve consistency and confidence in PASS cards. The new standard card design has won support and endorsement from Government, the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Security Industry Authority and we continue to work to make sure that our member companies accept PASS cards as the most widely used and reliable form of proof of age.
