Please describe how you have supported staff with chronic conditions or those with unpaid caring responsibilities over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section
There is a medical centre based on site where workers can visit for examination and treatment. Issues that can be dealt with by the medical staff are treated at this centre, or staff will signpost the patient to the most appropriate place. On-going health surveillance is provided to workers who are risk of exposure to hazardous substances or physical hazards such as noise and hand-arm vibration, furthermore the medical centre provides medicals for safety critical workers to ensure they are fit for the tasks being asked of them. Early signs of ill health are detected and treated, and on-going conditions are monitored. To support this, there are wellbeing campaigns run throughout the year, some of which focus on chronic health conditions. People who attend the briefings have the opportunity to obtain further advice or support, for example, with smoking cessation, and there is opportunity for patients to 'drop in' for health advice. Having the medical centre on site has provided accessible healthcare and support to workers who would ordinarily have to take time from work, or they wouldn't bother to seek help until the health condition was more severe.
