H1. Chronic Conditions Guide and Carers

The majority of BT people only need minor and/or temporary adjustments to help them overcome obstacles caused by ill health or injury. For others we have available the Health and Wellbeing Passport, a voluntary initiative particularly suitable for people with long-term or relapsing conditions. In the last year we have reviewed our support for employees who, due to a disability or long term health condition, are no longer able to continue in their role. Our Enabling Workplace Redeployment scheme supports employees to move into alternative roles which reflect the change in their circumstances.
We provide company-funded rehabilitation services for musculoskeletal disorders and mental health problems, and a specialist advice service for more complex adjustments.
We have an employee network for people with disabilities or long term health conditions. We also have a network for carers. We continue to highlight the help we offer our people with caring responsibilities with various initiatives such as pledging support for national Carers Week and backing Carers Week Quest – a five-point pledge to reach out and support people caring for an ill, frail or disabled family member or friend. We have a Carer’s passport, similar to the Health and Wellbeing passport, to enable individuals who feel that their circumstances are affecting, or could affect, their ability to work in the future to have conversations with their line managers and agree the key steps both can take to make the often very small adjustments required to get the best balance for the individual and BT.
