P3. Active Travel

Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
At Adastral Park, the largest BT site, there is a Grass Routes travel plan and supported website, designed to encourage people to think about how they travel to work. Bike Week, Walk to Work Week, Lift/Car Share Week were encouraged. The Adastral Bike User Group (BUG) promotes cycling as a means of transport, and provides advice to those working at Adastral Park on routes to work, recommended bike shops, and offers an on-site cycle workshop.
As part of the BT sustainable travel groups ' Cost Transformation' objectives in 2014-15 we aim to reduce spend on travel and associated costs by approximately 10 per cent, saving around 10 million. This is approximately equivalent to savings in the order of 4,721,064 kg (4,721 tonnes) can be made - a potential reduction of two per cent of BT's total UK CO2e net emissions resulting from its UK operations.
Bike Awareness Week, Walk to Work week and Lift Share week are campaigns supported and encouraged through the annual wellbeing communications calendar and the Work Fit health promotion programme.
We have recently launched a UK Cycle to Work scheme and for those who do not meet the criteria (e.g.homeworkers) we have arranged a discount on bicycles from our chosen partner. We already have a similar scheme in the Republic of Ireland and there is a bicycle club run by our people in Germany. Information is available on our Intranet with regards to bicycle parking at various BT buildings.
During the last quarter of this year, we ran a trial within our HR community of the SiSU Wellness online programme that aims to help improve health, wellbeing, confidence and resilience. It starts with a health check that gives a personalised health score. It then encourages improvement in your wellbeing by offering a series of 12-week behaviour change programmes covering: healthy ageing; weight loss; stress management; and better sleep. Increasing physical activity is a key part of the behaviour change programmes.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
