Please describe how you report on the health and wellbeing of your employees, including annual sickness rates
We currently employ 6083 employees plus 1025 bank staff on zero hour contracts on two main sites. In March 2015, the sickness rate was 3.63% with a turnover rate of 14.43% and the main causes for absence that have been recorded are stress/anxiety/depression and musculoskeletal problems.
The data continues to be reported to the Board on a bi-monthly dashboard and actions are implemented to reduce the rates within the Divisions. The external website has some information on sickness for all employees and the intranet has comprehensive information on H&WB and the programmes available for all employees. This information is under constant review and amendment and BHRUT is committed to managing and supporting employees to improve attendance where appropriate and reduce sickness absence in particular. Staff should feel confident that their health and wellbeing is a matter of importance to the Trust, and that any health issues will be handled sympathetically. The intention of Trust Policy is to provide clear guidance for all employees and for the Policy to be used in a supportive manner to help Improve Working Lives and business effectiveness rather than be seen as a punitive tool. The Trust will support staff that are unable to work and the OH&WB Service will assess and make recommendations where necessary.
Another Salary Sacrifice Scheme ran in December giving Staff the opportunity to purchase Computers, TVs, Telephones and white goods. The cost is deducted from the employees salary over a set period of time before tax, national insurance and pension contributions are calculated and deducted from their gross salary therefore providing them with a saving.
All schemes are still active with the introduction a full time Physiotherapist in the department. A Chiropodist visits fortnightly and we have recently introduced a Personal Trainer offering staff the opportunity to sign-up to receive a healthy nutrition and exercise programme designed specifically for them.
