H3. Health & Wellbeing Report
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 23 April, 2015
Please describe how you report on the health and wellbeing of your employees, including annual sickness rates
Matrix has been reporting on the sickness absence rate and staff turnover figures since signing up to the PHRD in 2012. For the past three years, we have seen a consistent increase in our staff turnover (mainly due to including short term contracts in the statistics and the introduction of a permanent but transient Emergency Panel). However, we have seen a consistent decrease in our total number of working days off sick. We made a decision not to report on illness types in order to protect personal information. These statistics continue to be published on our staff intranet on an annual basis.
Flexible working has been implemented for two new mothers allowing flexible hours and working from home. It has also been implemented to allow a father to take his daughter to school once a week. In June 2014, our flexible working policy was updated to open up flexible working requests to all employees who have 26 weeks or more service.
In May 2014, an Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey was completed. 94% reported being either Very Satisfied or Satisfied with Matrix as an employer. 100% feel the leaders of Matrix care about their well-being and 48% Agreed Strongly that Matrix allows them to maintain a work life balance. Areas of improvement relating to health at work focused on the cramped conditions of the office. The building is currently being surveyed by architects and a refurbishment is being considered to offer a more spacious working environment.
Instead of just biscuits, fresh fruit and cereal bars are now offered to barristers and employees.
Filtered water is consistently available from our chilled water coolers on each floor.
Instead of just tea and coffee, fruit teas, juice and decaffeinated options are now available.
Employees took part in Livings Streets' Walk to Work Week 2014, which was combined with Matrix's Health Week (desk assessments, nutrition and dental advice talk, fitness classes, healthy snacks).
