A4. Tackling Under-Age Alcohol Sales

Please describe your work to reduce and prevent under-age sales of alcohol, over the last year (2000 characters limit):
In the last year we have continued to communicate regularly with our Partners (licensees), highlighting the importance of taking action in their premises to reduce and prevent under-age sales of alcohol through the ‘Challenge 25’ campaign.
Our dedicated Risk Management team helps to ensure that our pubs operate responsibly and to the highest standards, striving to ensure that our pubs are not operating irresponsible drinks promotions, or serving underage drinkers or those under the influence of alcohol.
Our online portal, the Punch Buying Club, has a section on Risk Management and provides Partners with a wide range of downloadable educational tools, advice and pub-friendly materials which can also be used by pub managers and team members. This is updated regularly with articles to highlight any legislative changes or watch outs at certain times of the year such as Bonfire Night, Christmas and the approaching summer.
The Risk Management team have also worked to create a free Licensing and Risk Management Staff Training tool. This tool can be used to provide Licensing training in house and to further support the e-Learning tools provided on the Punch Buying Club.
We are also entering into the second year of our test purchase programme across our Scottish estate, which has been successfully implemented to help highlight training needs with regards to age related alcohol sales.
We have also implemented our test purchase programme for all Partners in new businesses. These businesses are tested within the first three months and we use the results to educate our Partners, which may involve highlighting success or providing additional training via our Regional Trainers.
