P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 23 April, 2015
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
We are a small organisation, 65 employees, but we recognise the importance of supporting initiatives to encourage colleagues to be more active. We have a subsidised gym membership which 6 colleagues use. We are also promote the ride2work scheme and 5 colleagues are members. However, we also provide secure facilities for bikes and showers in the building which mean 10 colleagues in total ride to work every day.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Please estimate the number of your employees who participated in your workplace physical activity programmes over the last year and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
In total 15, which is a mix of those using our facilities to cycle to work or taking advantage of the gym membership.
Has the number of your employees participating in your workplace physical activity programmes increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why.
It has stayed about the same, but overall we feel we are more active, as we know a number of colleagues choose to use their home gym than take advantage of the subsidised membership of a gym close to our office.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
We believe it has probably ensured it stays the same. We are pleased so many colleagues are cycling to work but our subsidised gym membership is a more personal choice of location for colleagues. As participants in the RD groups we feed back regularly to colleagues on overall progress and reinforce the messages of taking physical activity as well as maintaining a healthy diet.
