P1. Physical Activity: Community
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 22 April, 2015
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
We have had at least three or four local gym companies come in to our Support Centre to brief the team and get them to join up since January this year. Through our wellbeing warriors we also encourage each of our sites to contact local facilities for our team.
We sponor specific Charities and encourage all team to get involved as much as they can especially with cycle rides, marathons or half marathons and midnight walks etc.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
We encourage outdoor activities on all of our sites for guests. We have a family park ranger programme called nature rockz on our caravan parks to encourage families to learn more about the environment and to get out and about.
All our guests are offered swimming facilities as well as football coaching, high ropes and archery to name but a few.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
We encourage each of our sites to sponsor local clubs whether it be a running club, football club or childrens club and consequently our local teams will get involved in any of their fund raising activities.
Please estimate the number of people that (a) participated in your community programmes:
Please estimate the number of people that (b) were more active as a result of participating:
Please explain how you arrived at these estimates (if unknown, please explain why):
Mostly through entering fun runs and then taking up running more regularly and similarly with cycling doing it for fun to start then getting more involved.
Please indicate which of the following demographic groups within the local community that you have worked with to promote increased participation in physical activity:
Women, Men, Older adults (65+), Children & young people, Black or Minority Ethnic (BME) Communities, Disabled People, People from deprived communities, Other (please specify)
We do not target any particular group however one brand is aimed at older adults and therefore work has been carried out in this area.
We often host disabled guests and our team are trained to work with them accordingly.
We have also put the Dementia Friends programme on our elearning portal.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
We have no way of actually measuring whether it was physical activity but our absence stats were much better in 2014.
