1 January, 2013
Submitted: 21 April, 2015
Please describe how you have supported staff with chronic conditions or those with unpaid caring responsibilities over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section
Elior UK continues to work with Line Managers across its business to ensure that through ongoing, focused training and support, that there is regular engagement with any colleagues who are suffering from any chronic illness or long term prognosis. The emphasis remains on the use of welfare meetings, working closely with the colleague to address concerns and establish the likelihood of a return to work in a full or more limited capacity. Where appropriate, Line Managers and colleagues have access to external occupational health assessments to provide additional support to this process, and establish the viability of amended duties, flexible working programs or other ways of supporting colleagues in the workplace.
A number of practical guides have been developed and are used to ensure a fair and balanced approach is taken to long-term absence, along with specific training programs which have been rolled out to managers, placing strong emphasis on welfare. Full day programs with practical case studies and group discussions are supplemented by bite-sized, on-line training which is currently under development and will be rolled out to the business later in 2015.
All colleagues additionally have access to a Colleague Support Programme which can provide additional support and assist in return to work discussions.
We have also held diabetes awareness days in association with Diabetes UK, where colleagues have been able to find out more about the condition and voluntarily receive an assessment and check.
