1 January, 2013
Submitted: 16 April, 2015
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
HMRC has introduced a Cycle to Work scheme which aims to encourage healthier journeys and reduce environmental pollution and continues to strongly promote this. Since the Department launched the scheme, more than 1,000 employees have signed up. Improvements have been made to facilities such as cycle rack and storage locker provision in 17 HMRC buildings and more are to be provided in 24 further offices. Provision has been made following numerous employee suggestions supporting the scheme and which have a positive effect on staff health and wellbeing. Monitoring of the rate of take up of the scheme will continue; consideration of necessary promotion activity also continues.
Quote; Cycling is a great low impact exercise, and it's also good for your mental wellbeing. I got a good deal under the Cycling to Work Scheme.'
HMRC have continued to promote more active travel through internal communications and stakeholder discussion with the Revenue and Customs Sports and Leisure club (RCSL). The Department maintains a Cycling to work site which includes information on all events being supported by RCSL; such as Annual Leisure rides event and Road/Mountain bike Championships. Activity is supported by cycling event reports which look to support take up.
HMRC has and will continue to promote initiatives such as Change4Life through continuous communication throughout the year and the updating of comprehensive intranet Wellbeing
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Please estimate the number of your employees who report they are regularly using active modes of travel and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
Has the number of your employees using active modes of travel increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why:
If your active travel pledge activities have focused on customers or local communities, have you observed or measured any increases in active travel in these groups? If yes, please provide details and where you have been able to measure this please explain how you arrived at this estimate.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
