P2. Physical Activity Guidelines

Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
The HMRC delivery plan for Pledge P2 outlines what has taken place in support of this pledge to date.
Successful Stakeholder engagement establishment with Revenue and Customs Sports and Leisure Club (RCSL) and the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC) has continued to promote their work.
The Civil Service Activity Challenge promotes an active lifestyle and measuring the time staff take exercise. HMRC was the lead Government Department in 2013 and whilst the challenge did not take place this year, HMRC looks forward to taking the challenge in 2015.
HMRC again supported the Charity for Civil Servants Walking Challenge. The charity challenged civil servants across all government departments to walk 10,000 steps a day for 50 days. HMRC finished in overall 10th position. Quotes from those taking part included:-
'Taking part in the challenge has been a positive experience and made us healthier and more Health conscious'.
This activity was supported with the Walk to Work challenge during the week 12th May 2014 to 16th May 2014.
Information on local wellbeing initiatives, which includes physical activity clubs, walking, aerobics and team sports, are available and shared through a national register on HMRCu2019s intranet site which encourages participation and knowledge sharing.
Promotion and support has continued through a number of Wellbeing articles such as Keeping Fit and Well for Work, The Charity for Civil Servants Walking Challenge, Everyday cycling for everyone-National Bike Week.
A news article in January 2014 was published How Change 4 Life can help you supporting a number of healthy lifestyle options including physical exercise. HMRC is continuing to support the Change 4Life programme which looks to support exercise and healthy eating in particular the new Sugar Swaps campaign.
HMRC National Sports Day will take place in June 2015 .The event is organised and publicised by Revenue and Customs Sports and Leisure with support from HMRC senior management.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
The revised Chief Medicial Officers (CMO) guidelines provide physical activity recommendations for four distinct age groups. From the following list, please indicate the age groups you have focused on in disseminating the guidelines (if unknown, please explain why):
Early years (under 5s), Children & young people (5-18), Adults (19-64), Older adults (65+)
