9 April, 2014
Submitted: 26 March, 2015
Please describe how you have encourged your staff to stop smoking and reduced other risks in the workplace to respiratory health over the last year. There is a 2000 character limit when completing this section.
Liverpool Community Health (LCH) NHS Trust are supportive of those who wish to 'quit' or access stop smoking support through a range of different channels accessible to staff across the organisational locality. As an employer of approximately 3000 staff we are proactive in promoting and championing a smoke free environment to help promote a healthier workforce
We continue to provide all staff with information and access to Stop Smoking support. This is provided and promoted through all the relevant Trust communication channels including the staff intranet, desktop facilities, weekly newsletters and information and signage in communal staff areas, staff training sessions, pre-employment checks and staff newsletters. The Trust also participates in national and regional no smoking campaigns such as ‘Stoptober’.
In 2014/15 LCH launched a ‘Fast Track telephone Staff Stop Smoking Service’ to make the support accessible for staff, regardless of shift patterns and hours of work. In addition to this, staff who present themselves as a smoker within the pre-employment health checks are signposted to the relevant stop smoking service for further support.
All staff are aware of our smoke free policy and cigarette FAQ’s and apply the guidance to their practice and place of work. Staff who attend corporate induction receive brief intervention training which raises awareness of the health implications that smoking has on individuals
