Submitted: 11 March, 2015
Please describe how you report on the health and wellbeing of your employees, including annual sickness rates
The 2013/14 annual report is available on the Luton and Dunstable Hospital website. The wellbeing of staff section is on page 63. Highlights include :-
*Continuence of provision of an Employee Assistance Programme. This is 24 hr 7 days per week, 365 days of the year access to telephone support/counselling, debt management and legal advice. Individuals are also able to see a counsellor for 5 face to face sessions if required.
* NHS Health check for the over 40’s:- the Trust has just over 2000 staff who are over the age of 40. A company had been commissioned by Luton Borough Council to set up and provide free health checks to those over the age of 40 and up to the age of 74. Whilst this was a national scheme we were able to secure dates for this service to be brought on site to our staff. During 13/14,190 members of staff were seen. Each check included height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol levels
* We vaccinated 58.8% of our frontline staff against flu, which was a 6% higher uptake than the year previous and higher than the National average uptake amongst NHS Acute Trusts.
*The Occ Health team maintained their accreditation under the Safe Effective Quality Occupational Health Service. (SEQOHS).
*A health and wellbeing awareness raising day was held in June entitled ' sping into Summer', featuring smoothie bikes, healthy eating demonstrations, keep fit, laughter yoga and much more.
The 2014/15 annual report is near its completion and will be available shortly. Health and wellbeing will again feature, detailing our achievements and activities
Particular highlights for 2014/15 include: continuance of all of the above...with the addition of
Schwartz Centre Rounds. - providing a regular forum for staff to come together to explore the emotional and social challenges of providing compassionate care, and to support each other.
* Production of a bi monthly health and well being newsletter
* We vaccinated 66.3% of our frontline staff against flu
