H1. Chronic Conditions Guide and Carers

Over the last year we have continued to support staff with chronic conditions enabling them to return after a period of sickness absence. We have met this by improving on our return to work programme including return to work interviews, risk assessments and workplace adjustments including ergonomic adjustments ,changes to working hours, flexible working practices, changing the way our employees work allowing more breaks/rest periods , using equipment that may help reduce the demands of our employees, phased return to work after sickness absence, adjusting performance targets and redistributing work. We have also run various health campaigns throughout the business by communication material issued to staff, the use of the local health resource library and by various charities attending the business providing workshops to staff. Managers have been trained on the importance of managing return to work programmes for those staff who return to work following a chronic illness, they work closely with employees to ensure that the support mechanisms are in place to enable staff to return to work.
We ensure the use of a comprehensive Occupational Health programme for those staff returning to work ensuring we provide a working environment appropriate to their needs. As a business we will continue to ensure that we embed the principles of the chronic conditions guides throughout our working practices.
The introduction of the fit for work service has prompted further training for line managers within the business.
