P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 26 September, 2014
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Where possible we link in physical activity as part of our Occupational Health promotional campaign. This year specifically tying it in with the message of 'healthy body healthy mind' as part of our Mental Health campaign. This took the form of a poster campaign and as a feature in our regular 'health matters' blog. The blog was written by OH but comments and contributions came in from many members of staff promoting and sharing ideas of how to stay fit and healthy and new activities to try.
At E.ON the Health and Wellbeing of our staff is critical to our wider business strategy. We want our people to be resilient and fit to perform at work but also to have a happy and healthy lifestyle outside of the workplace.
Although we do not have a formal activity champion network many of our sites run E.ON supported Sports and social clubs. These clubs promote weekly participation in a variety of activities such as football, badminton and cricket. During the summer months they also promote ad hoc activities such as volley ball, rounders and ultimate Frisbee. As E.ON subsidises these clubs our staff can often try out new and fun activities for a nominal fee.
5 of our sites have onsite facilities such as gyms and work out rooms. These are subsidised by E.ON so offer our staff the opportunity to work out or attend classes for a reduced rate and attend in work time. For our staffs who do not work on these sites we offer subsidised gym membership via flex bens or local offers. These are actively promoted to staff.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Please estimate the number of your employees who participated in your workplace physical activity programmes over the last year and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
Has the number of your employees participating in your workplace physical activity programmes increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
