P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace

Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Cornwall Council are committed to offering a range of opportunities to encourage employees to take part in physical activity. The council works in partnership with Cornwall Sports Partnership and CIOS Health Promotion Service to offer the following opportunities for staff:
Annual Activity Challenge u2013 participants receive pedometers and work their way around a virtual map of Cornwall in teams of 3. Prizes and discounts to activity providers are awarded to teams during the 6 week challenge.
Running groups - Run Cornwall provide free run lead trainers for groups of employees in Cornwall. There are currently 12 employee groups up and running across Cornwall.
Walk lead training u2013 The Health Promotion Service train employee walk leads to take on lunch time walking groups.
Employees organise their own onsite activity including yoga, circuits and pilates.
There are two permanent table tennis tables available at New County Hall in Truro for employees and the public to use.
Employee competitions such as 5 a-side football, netball and rounderu2019s have been organised by the sports partnerhip for council employees.
The council also liaise with leisure providers to offer leisure discounts for employees.
Activity opportunities are advertised via dedicated health and wellbeing communicationu2019s to all employees and on the council health and wellbeing intranet pages.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
